Has Anyone Had Treatment With Methadone ?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone found a provider that will treat them with Methadone? I am currently getting this treatment and it has great success for the long -term , however there are only two centers in my state of Kansas that I have found to provide this service and they aren't covered by Medicare/Medicaid or any other insurance. Although commonly used to treat Heroin addiction and addictions to other opiates i.e. Hydrocodone, Ocycontin etc. it can also be a great option for long -term pain relief. In my state… read more

I used to be a nurse...Now I'm just beat up and have spinal stenosis. I have only dispensed Methodone as a last resort medication for severely damaged people. We gave it to a young patient who did not want to be on a pain pump.. Her arm was torn off in an accident and reattached.. I was told that Methadone eats your bone marrow....Bone marrow produces red blood cells....Red blood cells are important. I hope this gives you an explanation.

Methadone doesn't eat your bone marrow. I just looked up a whole bunch of information on it. I have taken it before because of a chronic back problem (doctor was trying various drugs to see if one worked better than the other). I had no problem with it. It's was also really inexpensive and I didn't have medical insurance at the time. It worked OK, but no better than anything else.

They don't hand out methadone anymore. I was on it before the cut off here in SC. I've been on it for over 10 years now. The withdrawal for me will be intense if I'm taken off. I will fight to keep me on it. After all I am 67 and don't need that pain either. If you are not on methadone, don't start. Start cannabus oil, I use that too.

I have been using methadone for 3-4 years now and have found it beneficial for my pain. Yes it is addictive but so are the tablets they give you, I was taking Oxycotin and got addicted to that so they put me on the methadone as it was cheaper and had less side effects on my body. I have oesteoarthritis in both knees, which is down to bone on bone, bad back, swelling of one leg and now ulcers on mine legs and toes. The pain I experience in my toes is so overwhelming sometimes that I can spend the day in bed still in agony so I also take Lyrica for the nerve pain in my feet and codeine/ibuprofen tablets as well. If the methadone is working for you stick to it, surely their would be a provider at a hospital, in Australia we are very lucky to have them everywhere and you can see them for no cost and the methadone only costs around $6/dose. Everyone is different as long as you do your homework and it works stick with it Vandy

I have had Fibomyalgia over 15 yrs now. The last ten years I've been taking methadone which helps my pain for sure. I am addicted to it now and could takes years to remove from my body. If i knew and the doctors knew, i would not have ever started it. Don't start this Med-should be used in hospital only in emergency situations, then stop the med.
