Waking Up In Pain
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

Good morning everyone, i hope you all slept okay? I tend to wake up with a lot of pain in my lumber spine, i think it's from not moving during the night.. the muscles get really tight along my back and go right up to my head and sometimes give me a headache. Does anyone else experience anything like this or have any tips for stretching in the morning? *Hugs*

The best pillow I EVER found is the My Pillow advertised on TV. $50 BUT worth every last penny. We got ours at Walmart. Part of my pain is in my neck and shoulder so it helps me in that area. I have a body pillow against my spine for cushioning and having one between your knees is a great idea. I have severe pain at the base of my spine radiating into my hip on the right side making walking darn near impossible. Gentle stretches first thing in the morning help lengthen the spine and loosen it up. Yes, it can be painful but they really do help. I desperately need a hip replacement but gained almost 40 lbs. While on prednisone and have to re-loose that before they will even consider it. Everybody is encouraging me to ask for stronger pain medication but I am afraid tomorrow when I visit pain management. I take 7.5 my oxycodone with baclofen and gabapentin. At least until I can get through hip surgery. Just found out I have developed macular degeneration in both eyes and have to see a retina specialist for that and other findings next week. So much time in the hospitals and ICU since last spring we finally thought we turned a corner. Being so close to death gives you a different outlook on life, severe pain and all. If I did not believe in God I would have committed suicide a few days before Christmas. A great deal of loss, pain, and grief until it became too much. Dealing with PTSD, depression, and random flashbacks has not helped. It is so exhausting being in this much pain and lack of sleep is a real problem. I have taken to falling asleep on the toilet lol! Then my honey falls asleep and my legs and feet and I cannot stand up and have to scream loud enough to wake Charlie up to bring me my Walker (rollator). I find it funny and do not care where I fall asleep as long as I am sleeping.

I sleep with a larger size pillow under my knees, I find it takes pressure off my lower back and when I side sleep the pillow goes between my legs long-ways as it supports my knees and lower legs. I’ve even gotten good at turning over with the pillow still between my legs w/o having to re-adjust it again and also have another full sized pillow that supports me in the front so I don’t twist my back as I turn. ( like a barrel roll) so I sleep with 3 pillows in a queen sized bed, and somewhere with me is my husband and our 3 cats. Lol 😂 It’s crazy It’s come down to that all to get a good nights sleep which most of you know how hard sleep is to come by. Hope this helps, God Bless you all.

I lay on my back and bring my knees up to my chest by pulling behind my knees this stretches my back, I hold it as long as possible, some times it works other times not so much, but its worth a try.

I can't find your name on this page and I have forgotten what it was
But the idea about the strechey ban is a good way
I lay on my back in bed and put my arms above my head and then I somehow strech all of my body in one big one then I have to stop really fast or I get cramps Right then everywhere and that sucks if that makes any sense it really hard to explain how I do it it like my whole body just pull And I feel every joints in my body that are moving all my dics to separate and my whole body feels better for that moment but it doesn't help me with my pain getting out of bed it hits me right away
I hope this helps somehow
May your day be good for you and your pain be as painless as possible
Mike

God bless
