Has Anyone Been Prescribed Low Dose Naltrexone For Their Pain?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm wondering because I want to approach my doctor about trying it. Nothing else had helped and I've tried almost all fibro drugs out there. And not one doctor will prescribe opioids for my pain. Other than my Tylenol 3 or Norco very seldomly. Also if you got this, how did you get your doctor to do it and where do you get it from? I've read that you need to go to a compounding pharmacy but I'm not too sure.

My Dr, has just told me about this today, it apparently has just became available in Australia, she said it isn't opiod actually it is the opposite, i have come off Oxycontone and Lyrica, and she knows i don't want to go back there! I'm thinking of giving it a trial go!

@A MyChronicPainTeam Member I know, and it's a very hard situation to be in! It's almost like no doctor is willing to help at this point. Well I did all my research on this LDN and brought it to 2 different doctors. The first one said he'd have to read over everything I gave him and do a little more research. Then after that he'd have to bring it up to the medical directors of the clinic and it would probably take over a month before he knew something. Then 3 months before he would let me know!! So I went to another doctor, who thankfully happens to be just 5 blocks from my house instead of 3 hours away. And he said yes in an instant! He'd already known about and researched it a little and that was enough for him. So now I'm just waiting on the compounding pharmacy to send it to me in the mail which I should receive by mid week. And I only just saw him on Thursday! So needless to say, I'm super excited!! They say it can take about 3 weeks to a month until you feel the effects of it though. But that is just fine withoverallause if it is going to work like what I've read, the wait will be all worth it. It's supposed to give you up to a 30% reduction in pain symptoms from fibromyalgia. Which I am no where near with any of my current medications or treatments. Plus you receive an increase in your mood and a good overall sense of well-being. And another added bonus that may happen if you need is weight loss and increased fertility. Both of which I need major help with, lol!! If you're interested, there is a ton of info online to see. Lots of websites and patient forums that give good descriptions and reviews plus testimonials from real patients and doctors.

Yes I have! It worked well for a while and there are lots of studies on it but it stopped helping me after a while. It was really good for me for like 8 months though

I haven't heard of anyone taking it for Fibro. I took Savella and Gabapentin which worked but Gabapentin gave me memory loss as well as balance problems. I now take Cymbalta and use magnesium oil.
