I have been on narcotics ie: fentanyl, oxycontin, methadone, Percocet, etc. for the past 13 years for chronic pain syndrome, RSD, and fibromyalgia. Please know that taking narcotics masks underlying health issues. I decided to get off of the methadone I was on for the last 4 years; when I was at 10 mg. the doctor put me on clonidine patches .1mg every three days to "calm me down." He told me nothing about tapering down on the medication. It caused me to have horrible nightmares, so I removed the… read more

@A MyChronicPainTeam Member, fentanyl patches are not that great. For one thing, they have to be left on for a 72 hour period; at least that's the way it was prescribed for me. The most common problem was them not sticking to the skin for that long. I would have to tape them on to keep them on. It made showering quite a challenge. And I am allergic to surgical tape. My skin would peel off with the tape. Didn't work for me, just saying.

Hi Barb! I know exactly what you mean about the difficulties finding a good doctor in New Jersey. I drive about 45 minutes -1 hour south to get to my doctor, but I love him and trust him so it's worth the trip. If you want a recommendation, just ask. The practice has offices in both Voorhees and Hamilton/Robbinsville.
Dropping a person off meds like that is equal to torture in my mind. I've withdrawn from meds because of issues with insurance companies, and it's a nightmare. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, especially if it's solely because of that simple statement. I hope things aren't getting worse and that you're starting to level out a little bit...

If you want try Suboxin for the withdrawal off of it. Opiate decency and getting off it is horrid.

Thank you @A MyChronicPainTeam Member. Now we are moving from NJ to Pa. I don't know what I am going to do about pain meds now. It seems no one provides them in NE Pa.
