Hi
I was a teacher for 15 years but due to my health I had to retire early at 41yrs old. I have 4 children 10,10,15 and 16, so am kept busy , but really miss my career. My health problems began , after birth of my twin boys (now 10yrs). I developed dvt while pregnant, had c section , but developed life threatening internal bleeding 4 days after their birth. I had Greenfield Filter inserted in Veena cava, with view to removal 2 mths later. However , there were complications with its removal,… read more

Hi I am currently not able to work either but I am trying to get my degree part time. I find that working on daily things, working on increasing my stamina and journaling really help me. I have a goal and am working toward that. Maybe you would be able to become a part time aid and try to go in to a school 1 or 2 days a week for a few hours. I know having a purpose, goal whatever really helps to deal with the constant pain. I am so sorry for the struggles you are facing but have a feeling your a lot stronger than your giving yourself credit for. Gentle Hugs

Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid that wouldn't work as I have retired on health grounds so that covers all teaching. I get a small pension . I have done some voluntary work but even couple hours of projecting my voice causes escalation of neck and chest pain and breathlessness gets worse (I'm secondary school teacher!). I am looking into doing a part-time masters degree in our local university and that could open up some opportunities.
Somedays are worse than others so I suppose I need flexibility which makes commitment to something difficult. I generally try to stay positive and I am kept busy with my children and family. I suppose I looking forward to next 10 yrs when children are left home, I will be mid 50's and hopefully I will have a focus. I've always been interested in writing so maybe that's another avenue I could pursue.

Do like the disability judge told me. Go home and enjoy life. " permanent vacation" it was hard at first because I was a workaholic started at age 7 -- 40something. N no job at all since.

Have you considered tutoring or working as a substitute teacher? That way you can work as little or as much as you're able.
