How Many Of You Have Had SCS? Medtronic Or Boston? How Long Did It Help For?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

1 to 2 years 2 to 3 years 3 to 5 years anyone over 5 years good relief?

I mean large reduction of pain meds. How many years have you had condition and what is it. I am looking for relief after 16 years of heavy pain medications. I have RSD started in left foot spread up to low back and down the other leg to my toes in both legs.

I have had mine about 3 years ...
Low back trouble you know the drill if you have it :(
DDD stenosis and I have arthritis eating my spine.

I went from being home bound and in bed 18+ hours a day to working full time again.
I did that for 18 months and even stood 40 hours week!!!! with NO MEDS I had been taking 10 mg of oxy every 4-6 HOURS and even got dependant on them :(
About 1 year ago diffent problems with my cervical spine ended that

So going from that to none was amazing...I am thankful I had such great results!|

I help admin a couple facebbok pages and the results are not always that good.

The best advice I can give you is have the trial!!!!!!

It sould remove all doubt as to what you should do .

I broke into tears on the table at my trial because I knew I had finally found something to help.

It is not a fix it and forget it it is a new way of life but for me it has been lifechanging

I got my SCS in June of 2015. Mine is made by St. Jude. During the trail I had the Medtronic but the doctor that inserted the trial left suddenly and his replacement recommended the St. Jude because of the longer battery life.

My results were almost immediate and it has really helped in pain control. I still need pain meds [due to other health issues] but I went from taking 2 hydrocodone 10mg every 4 - 6 hours as well as getting injections of morphine as needed [for breakthrough pain - maybe once every 2 months] to taking 1 oxycodone [10 mg] maybe 2 times a day and some days I may not need any pain meds at all.

If you'd like additional info let me know. The SCS has been a major factor in my pain relief.

Hi I have CRPS/RSDS in legs since 1998. I have had my SCS since 2000. I have had 2 battery replacements since. I have Medtronic and find my chargeable battery lasting about 7 years before needing new battery. I have had a major reduction in meds, use to be about 28 a day now down to about 6 a day. I charge my battery 1 every 2 weeks and use it 24/7. I very rarely have it off. Where my Dr placed my 2 leads in my spine I get full leg coverage and my lower back, but you have to go through a 1 week trial first to see if it helps. Hope this helps.

Been in pain since 2000. Best releaf came from fentynol patchs. But stellate injections are giving best results . But they last anywhere from 2 to 12 months. Just depends......

RoboJester, I'm happy to hear about your good results. I've had my stimulator for 17 months now and have been able to cut way down on the pain meds [I have other medical issues and not just the back pain.]
I agree - have the trial! I have the St. Jude Stimulator.
Wishing you both good health and pain free days!
