I have been taking Hydrocodone 10mg, for 5 years now. I take it for chronic pain from my surgery when they took out my right lung because of lung cancer. I have 7compreshion fractures in my spine. I also have severe peripheral neuroapahy. The foot burning gets so bad that I start vomiting, then pass out and wake up at the hospital, and this can happen a couple of times a week. In the beginning, they had me on Gabapentin, Lyrica. They tried everything. I finally had enough!!... I had to become my own advocate, who is going to advocate for me?? No one!!!... I started to make a list of EVERYTHING I wanted to discuss with my Doctor. I made it clear that I am the only one who knows my body!!! These "Doctors" and "people" WORK FOR US !!! WE ARE THE BOSS!!!!!... My PCP told me that "PCP'S haven't any business prescribing pain meds. for people with chronic pain"... "A pain specialist was necessary because they are the ones who REALLY UNDERSTAND and have the POWER to give you THE MEDICATION YOU KNOW YOU NEED!!!"... Yes, I Screamed, Hollard, and Yelled. I was willing to through a Temper tantrum, and I through and I through them.. I know that Doctors are very intimadating but I just kepted Pushing. Got refured by my PCP to a Pain Clinic and now I have a Pain specialest who deals with all my Pain issues... My PCP handels the rest... Dont get me wrong. it didnt hapen over night.I have low self esteem so it was exstreemly hard for me to do. it gets easer the more you are heard .........Be Heard!!!! Try your best!!... IT IS THE SQUKY WHEEL THAT GETS OILED!!!! My best of luck!!!...Much Love I hope everyone gets what thea NEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUGS!

I was taking norco 10 mg 3 times a day when in January 2020 they cut me back to 2 times a day. I'm still struggling to figure out how to stretch a pill. DEA has mandated cuts on opiods thinking it will stop abusers from using. That's a load of bull manure! Gun control never worked, so, why do they think penalizing honest persons will ever stop illegal use???
One day doctors and law makers will find out what it's like. I hope they never have a bad back like mine. It disrupts your very being. 62 years old and healthy except for my back pain.

I have been taking Vicaprofen (Hydrocodone with Ibuprofen) for over 20 years without issue. My dose is well below the CDC's recommended ME. My specialist moved away and referred me to my family doctor to take over the prescribing and pain management. Now, after a few months, the family doctor wants to take me off of the Vicaprofen and put me on a long-acting opiate instead. She has suggested extended release morphine, a fentanyl patch or the new extended-release hydrocodone. Her sole reasoning is that short-acting pills such as Vicodin, oxycodone, Vicaprofen, etc.are "easily diverted", and my current prescription makes me a " statistical red flag".. She also wants to cut my current prescription in half.
The CDC guidelines itself recommends against the forced taper of chronic pain patients who are doing well on their current regime, (especially those who's doses are beneath the recommended ME) and does not recommend the use of extended-release or transdermal opioids over short-acting ones.
Yet the doctor persists. What can I do?
