For those with extreme hip pain..how do you sleep
I am finding it extremely difficult to sleep....Sleeping on my left side, or right side is impossible...sleeping on my back gives me lower back pain....is it easier if I put a pillow under my knees

What kind of mattress do you have? Firm, Extra Firm? Does it help you? What name brand do you suggest? Right now my bed is too soft....and it'sā€¦ read more

For hip pain, lay on side with pillow between knees to keep them parallel as possible.

@needAdvice - before I had my hip replaced I would sleep with a foam pillow between knees. I suppose a pillow would serve the same purpose. Feel better soon!

I guess you have had MRI s to confirm the hip problem. Mine came from the knee. I was doing the pillow and the dr told me the pillow was making the hip worse! I thought a soft mattress would be bp better but I am finding I have less pain if it is firmer. We bought a sleep number bed and I can adjust the firmness and softness to what ever I want. Some times I just change it in the middle iPod the night. I can't use any of that topical stuff. I break out Ina rash. I do alternate heat and cold on it and there is a product called thermacare which is a portable no electric heating paid that helps my back and hip. I hope you are going to a specialist for this.

If laying on my side a pillow between the legs is something I never go without and now since both hips have been done I sleep on my back with a pillow under both knees. I'm propped up on pillows under my head which is not the most comfortable position but the only choice I have. I've gotten used to it now.
