Has Anyone Else Used Botox For Nerve Pain?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

The pain specialist is now recommending botox injections for my headaches. Is there anyone who has had experience with it?

My God yes, for me. I started on Botox about 2 1/2 years ago for my chronic migraine and out has reduced the frequency of attacks and my daily head pain. I still have daily pain but am usually closer to 2-5 than 4-8 on my pain scale. I spike up during the day and come back down, and sometimes it's really hard to determine if I have an actual attack coming on- I only rarely have visual aura, and don't have food triggers; mine begin in my neck and are triggered by bright/ fluorescent lights, smells, loud noise, weather and stress. Usually I need a multiple dose of a rescue med, so i need to pick and choose when they are most urgently needed.
I know not everyone has good results with Botox therapy, but it's been a literal lifesaver for me.

I had a series of Botox injections for my headaches and TMJ around 10 years ago, and I am getting ready to have it done again-for the constant tension and migraine headaches. The first set was done, then my doc did it again about a year later then about 8 months after that. (This was my pain doc that did the injections-now my neurologist is going to be doing these in a week or so) They did help my headaches-I can't say I stopped any meds and my headaches were all better, but it did help. I have had my headaches and TMJ for over 30 years now so the Botox helped with the severe muscle spasms and tension. In hindsight I found out about a year ago that for some reason Botox injected in a badly damaged TMJ joint speeds up OA/degenerative disease. Oh well, they can't get much worse. I had injections in my neck, up the back of my head to my temples and a few on the front sides of my head around the hairline above temples. Takes a while to take affect-weeks even. Is your. Like I said, I still had/have headaches but it "took the edge off" some of them and to me any type of relief is worth it. My headaches are worse and muscles so much worse that headaches even lead to my jaw locking so I am going to give it a shot again-doctors office said they ordered it (must get pre-approval before they will even order the Botox-and of course it is not cheap) I'm not sure if I answered your question or just rambled on for a while. Good luck whatever you choose to do and of course many headache free days!
