What Are The Options For Treatment For Fibromyalgia?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

The doctors have me on the quadfecta of medications to treat fibromyalgia and all of its wonderful symtpoms, (baclofen, topiramate, cymbalta and lyrica), however, it has also caused me to gain almost 30 pounds in 3 months. I am now the heaviest I have ever been, which is making everything worse both physically and mentally. Does anybody have any alternatives either pharmaceutical or naturopathic?

I have fibro, plus other med issues. Honestly, according to drs there's nothing that can be done, they say. I see a neurologist. I'm on Lyrica for the pain. Also, I've actually started a low impact walking routine. Plus, an occasional stretching/workout routine that is also low impact. I'm only in my 3rd week. So far, the impact on my mental POV is okay. When I'm not walking I have moments of agitation, irritation, dread for not wanting to walk, etc. Physically, I still hurt all over, but the hurts come and go. The mental impact is more important to me right now. Because, if I can't get control over my mental health, then I don't feel like doing anything. I just want to lay around and sleep. Then my depression worsens and I hurt worse. I'm hoping to keep up with the activity, simply because I want to lose weight, I want to get better control of my diabetes (type 2), and I want to get better in my mental health. I've been talking with my therapist and something she said made an impact on me and that was take 1 day at a time, if I don't to clean my home, because I can't or I don't have the energy to then allow myself that I can't. Since this journey of bad health started, it's been like a roller coaster, everything in my life has been impacted. I'm saying all of this, mostly because, the doctors have not come up with a solution to our problem. Some in the medical field don't even believe in or completely understand fibro. So, I've decided to come up with my own solution to how to deal with something that is in my life that is not going away. Months ago, I would have lol'd at the thought of walking, or exercising, because, all I experience is pain and depression, but I feel a little better because I feel like I'm taking better control of my life. Good luck!

You are the one in need of relief, doctors these days think they are God(some of them)
I had a couple... insensitive.
God speed & remember no one has the right to tell you how you feel. Pain sucks & Doctors have feds chasing them now. Big Government does this & it only hurts those who need it

Neurologist or a rheumatologist

Hugs back to you. I am glad you are gonna change doctors. If you can find a neurologist to solely deal with you fibro, that way you don't even have to worry about your primary. Just like getting a burger at McDonalds-if you don't like it, or their customer service is bad. Then you deserve to have it how you want it, and to stop the bad customer service. Doctors, some, forget that we have a right to have good care. And fibro is NOT in your head! Good luck.
