How To Explain To People?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm suffering from chronic nausea. This does come with the daily risk of it getting suddenly worse so that I have to sit down, stop whatever I'm doing and go home, or throw up. Has anyone got any tips for how to explain these risks to people before doing an activity in a way where they don't think you're exaggerating or trying to get sympathy? Thanks.

In my experience, you're always going to come across people that are going to think you're exaggerating or trying to get sympathy no matter what way you approach telling them. I find that being straight forward with people is the easiest however.

May I ask what the cause of your nausea is?

Ginger helps sometimes, getting enough sleep, eating even when I don’t want to. Mostly I try to remember it will eventually pass but it’s just really difficult sometimes

I agree being as straightforward as possible is the best way. Hope your having a better day today. I also suffer chronic nausea so i can relate. What are some of the things you do to help your nausea?

My chronic nausea is pretty bad too. There is an herbal drink called ribena that for some strange reason works for me. 2 tbsp in hot water and i can usually eat a meal. Peppermint helps too. This is another of those invisible prob!ems we deal with but when I turn green they know to get out of the way or get puked on.
