Somatic Disorder Is It Real Or Are We Just Not Being Believed By Our Doctor's?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

Two years ago I began to have shoulder and neck pain. At first I thought it was a bad night sleep and had a little bit of tension
Then I began to have a relapse in my depression and also the pain got worse
Finally my pain management doctor ordered an MRI and he told me that I had a bulging disc in my lower back.
So my question is...
Is somatic pain REAL & the physical pain was due to the depression?
Or was it physical AND somatic?
Does anyone now or in the past have a doctor that didn't… read more

Yes now I realize that my pain was due to depression but I also do have a bulging disc in my lower back. So basically this pain is a combination of both! I'm doing really well on my medications for depression anxiety right now. I really don't like the anxiety meds but it's better than not having anything at all..
Do you know if anyone gained or lost weight on Paxil? My doctor prescribed it to me along with the Abilify and the Trileptal for mood swings and depression. I'm kind of scared to take the Paxil because I keep hearing that makes people gain weight and I work so hard to lose 60 lb that I've lost so far! I'll be damned if medication makes me gain weight again LOL

I know my pains real. My new doctor thinks I should start going off meds. I dont want too. I dont want to be depressed or have anxiety again. That causes more pain.

Yes you're absolutely right they definitely did not believe me for a very long time until I had an MRI done that was ordered by my pain doctor which shows that I had to bulging discs.
After that I did slip into a deeper depression which probably did make the pain and attention even worse but hopefully now I can continue to get some relief with this medication.
