Anyone used Gabapentin for chronic pain. Just had to come off Codeine and Tramadol and Doctor has given me this to try. What can I expect?

Members shared mixed experiences with gabapentin for chronic pain, with many finding it helpful specifically for nerve pain but less effective for joint or muscle pain, often requiring combination with other medications like Cymbalta, duloxetine, or opioids to manage different pain types. Several members described challenging side effects including extreme drowsiness, nausea, feeling drunk or shaky, weight gain, insomnia, and thyroid issues, with some noting the medication becomes highly addictive and difficult to stop after long-term use. A recurring theme was frustration over the limitations of available pain management options, especially after losing access to opioids, and the trial-and-error process of finding the right dosage, with some members needing very high doses while others couldn't tolerate even low amounts.

Tell them it doesnt work, that med is for your brain. Google search " CDC advises against misapplication of the guideline for perscribing opioids. Print it out and show it to your doctor to try to get real meds back

I've used it off & on since I began having issues with my neck in 2011. It works for my nerve pain. I have to take narcos for the rest of my pain so between the 2, I've got my different pain types covered.

I take Gabapentin and hydrocodone. The Gabapentin is for nerve pain, and the hydrocodone is for the rest of my pain. I'm still in lots of pain.
