Pain Management

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve lived with pain for a while now but after an allergic reaction to codeine and opioids now on an increasing dose of Gabapentin. Currently sitting at 300. 200 and 300 and seeing my doctor in a week to increase further.
My question is what do you guys do for break through pain if the regular pain killers and NSAIDs are unsuitable. Many thanks in anticipation of your wisdom 🦉

Members shared varied experiences with managing breakthrough pain when opioids and NSAIDs aren't options, with gabapentin being a common but complex choice that many found required doses between 1200-3600mg to effectively control nerve pain, though several warned about side effects like brain fog, memory issues, and drowsiness at higher doses. Several members found meaningful relief through alternative approaches including CBD oil (especially Flora Sophia Botanicals brand), THC edibles for sleep and neuropathy, compounding topical ointments that bypass digestive side effects, acupuncture on a regular schedule, stretching exercises, heat therapy, and ketamine infusions. A recurring theme was the deeply personal nature of pain management, with members emphasizing that what works varies greatly between individuals, and many expressed frustration with the trial-and-error process, insurance barriers, and government restrictions that have made finding effective relief even more challenging.

In Canada the docs say gabapentine works best at 2600mgs to 3500mgs to control nerve pain , I know personally and through others the high dose is required to stop nerve pain , however brain fog is intense at the high levels, I never felt any relief until I reached 1600mgs, my issue was I could barely remember my name , I found that with gabapentine it's a trade off between less pain or stupidity I also fell asleep a lot even sitting. Take care on your journey with chronic pain

Same problem, watch your self. Gabapentin is also known for killing brain cells, find out what is going on. You brain it trying to tell you somethings wrong. Treating symptoms does not fix the problem. It masks them. I was on that for 30+ years, I had spinal cord damage from a MVA that was not properly addressed. Gabapentin messed my brain chemistry up so bad that it's taking me years to get normal after going off. Chemicals are not cures, just masks.. some have have them by dealing with the problems are better. I was an RN, RT and Psychology, Biochemistry and NeuroScience major.. Chemicals are large doses of a chain reactions.
Read Jan2020 NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC magizine on PAIN. Understand what is really going on.
Also best book on getting your life back..

STOP THE PAIN, the SIX to FIX.
Dr. Scott K Hannon
His son had Hodgkin's lymphoma, and wanted to heal not just treated for symptoms. His father dugg into the answers. Best of all books and textbooks to date. Heal yourself. Your Doc sees a patient every 15- 20 mins.. They don't have the answers to your issues, it's trial and error. It's overwhelming I know, it's been over 30 years with pain. Don't kill your body trying to stop pain. Fix it yourself.. some are simple, others harder, but you know your body. Opioid s and brain chemicals are a mask for the problem. I know.
Take your life and body in your own hand s, find out what you are allergic to, what is happening to your body. Look for simple things first, and move up the list.
It's your only life.

Watch Gabapentin, it kills new developing brain cells. THC is actually better as long as it is eaten, and not smoked. Smoking causes the CBD oil to tar up and the burning process adds carbons to the oxygen that you breathe and causes a lack of your cells getting the oxygen you and your body need. Cook it in brownies... Yum

I used 800mg gabapentin. It made me crazy. Have been on 600mg for about 3 years now. I have nerve damage and require additional opiates as well.

I use 2100 mg Flora Sophia Botanicals, it organic , made with coconut oil as well which is highly acceptable to the body and brain and his prices are lower than most. He is a highly education man that does all the processes needed to make CBD oil. Best oil I've ever used and I used most all of them. Still using.
