Does Someone Use The Spinal Cord Stimulator?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

After trying whatever I could in 27 years of Chronic Pain my Dr is trying to convince me to try the Spinal Cord Stimulator and I don’t know why I am a little afraid. It would help me a lot to know other experiences with it.
Thanks 😊

I had a stimulator for a few years or less...and I had it on so high, the doc said we would have to redo the batteries to quick and obviously it wasn't doing it job.

The pain pump (Medtronic's) is what I've had for 10 years. No way will I EVER give it up! If you got to the Medtronic's site, there is more info as you keep scrolling. It's quick, very effective for most, and one doesn't have the shortages or "problems" getting medications. The medication drops into the spinal fluid, so very little, if at all, goes all over your body in the way meds do. It gave me my life back.

MY PERSONAL OPINION WHICH ONLY REFLECTS MY EXPERIENCE...I would do it first and get it done. BUT... if you can keep your pain to a level - maybe like a 6 or so without too much medications, the stimulator might be a good start. If medications don't really help you much, and you are taking quite a bit, then I would question the doctor about getting a pain pump. It's very individualize, but your next visit with your pain specialist - conversing about the pro's and cons of each is a good idea. It's good to read information so you know questions to ask and theres more time to talk. Everyone is very different, but what doctors like is an educated patient who already has read the info - making it easier to explain.

I have one in my rear...lol. But, it was on high and the batteries would have to be replaced to quickly. They realized I needed the Spinal Pain Pump and it was a gift to me.
Medtronics is the popular company and they have a lot of info on their site.

I have had a Spinal Cord Stimulator since 2011. I have CRPS/RSD and am in constant pain. I will tell you, I think I would have lost my mind or worse if it were not for the stimulator! It has taken my pain from a
15 to a more reasonable 5-6 along with medication. The only downside to it, is that you will have to have the battery replaced (my 1st lasted almost 8 yrs).

I have had a trial for this. I have Neuropathy in my feet. It really helped with pain. Using a tens unit might help you understand the benefits of this surgery . A nerve cord stimulator is like an internal tens unit. They both disrupt pain signals from the brain.
