They Don't Care About My Pain
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

Because I have a few other conditions, that may be life threatening. I can't get the doctors o focus on my pain.

To be frank I don't care if the other things kill me, if they don't relieve the pain life isn't worth living anyway.

Anyone else had this problem, how did you get the doctors to understand.

The doctors are so hasseled when they dispense opioids that it's making them nuts. Insurance won't even fill mine a day early. They have only 1 vacation exception a year where I can fill early. I spend time in Miami with family so I have to come back so I can fill my prescription. Once I needed a blood transfusion and they would not pay for it in Miami. It was Xmas. I had to fly home for the day and go back. Cost me $1000.

It's out of control.

I am 60 and my life revolves around doctors tests medication and treatments. Not what I planned for my golden years.

Not sure what we can do about it. It appears nothing.

I also made the mistake of taking Advil and was bleeding from my nose like a faucet. Platelets.

I can't deal with pain. I just can't.

Hard to stay optimistic and enjoy life.

Try to stay strong. Feel free to lean on me and if I hear of a solution I will certainly share

Hugs
Tonni

Ronni, My pain management doctor used to allow my pain med to be filled a few days early, but doesn't anymore. He counts to very DAY!. He and I had a good understanding of each other. No more. Out of nowhere he starts reducing my hydro and he KNOWS this Gabapentin is no good for me! I had so much pain last month that I added ibuprofen. Big mistake!!! Five years ago all inti-imflammatories caused me severe non allergic rhinitis. HOW could I have forgotten that? So then I had to go on Prednisone and xanax. At 62 I am sick of having my days ruined by med issues.

Hi,
I do agree, you must be a strong self advocate. Do not let the Physician dismiss you. If you are on any RX for pain your could start with their effectiveness or lack of. Other wise bring up the pain first and I personally write notes before I go to my Physician and I've been to him for years, I just don't want to forget anything and my Physician is good with it...Good luck and don't hesitate on writing your story. I would say at least one of us have had it or cared for someone who did.

I can relate in so many ways & I am so sorry. I have been in an excellent teaching hospital and it got me no where.... My illness may be understood but nobody knows what to do in the end..My husband says there is not enough money in it, sometimes I can't argue the premise. I was actually in Germany many years back and there is a doctor/surgeon who really impressed me with his interest and empathy but unfortunately he is still struggling for a positive outcome for more than the 2 %. At least he is working on it, so there are people out there that do care. It just seems like it cost a lot of time, money and patient to (possibly) seek it out. I wish you luck and I too believe in quality of life not necessarily quantity but will stick it out...

I have several different health issues. I have survived things most do not. Because of so many surgeries & manipulations to my body it doesn't react to meds & treatment the same as "normal" people's do. I still can't find pain mgmt everyone tells me Teaching hospital but can't get to one. I would rather live a shorter better quality of life than a longer pain filled one in constant misery. Keep looking
