Also, I cannot lay flat. I have to sleep upright in a recliner. i don't even own a bed anymore it's been years since i've been able to lay flat. anybody else have this challenge? i met one other person here.

Yes, I can't either. I slept in a recliner for years and I got a Sleep # adjustable bed. It made all the difference in the world. I still am unable to sleep some nights because of the pain but it is infinitely better than it was before.

I just read if you have back trouble you should only lay on your sides. Never on your back.

Yes pain does keep me awake at night and can wake me up. The only thing I am comfortable laying on is a Tempur Cloud mattress and pillow, even then it does not stop the pain but I am moe comfy will suffering. If I lay on anything else I am in agony and my neck and head is very painful if I try sleeping on any type of pillow, even a lovely goose down pillow causes problems, have tried everything over the year, memory foam matters toppers do help but the Tempur mattress in the most comfortable. Hope this will help you. Sending hugs. x
