Emotions And Pain
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

How do I get through my life every day, when I get embarrassed walking down the street because I cant even manage to carry my groceries at the supermarket and my pain is too bad to manage? How do I try to reach out on Facebook or Instagram but everyone judges and 'looks at me' like I'm disabled? How do I cope when I've done a Bachelor and a graduate diploma and a certificate and cant find any work at all? How do you want to keep living for a better tomorrow when all you really want to do is… read more

I agree with Jennifer, it’s your opinion of you that counts. People will and do judge, but what are they to you. Use the resources around you to HELP as they aren’t an answer. Support groups help, therapy helps, sometime Meds help. Everyone is worthwhile!

I am so sorry that you are going through this, but we all have gone and continue to go through this as well. You need a good antidepressant or psychologist to talk to. You just have to keep trying, and say a few prayers.

You need to see your doctor about this. Do you attend a pain clinic? They are very helplful. I have been attending one for a couple of years now. They monitor the pain medications I take. Would you consider using a walker? You can pop your groceries on the seat. If you're walking anywhere you can just sit on the seat for a rest. I use a walker due to a back and leg problem and I am able to put my groceries on the seat and wheel it home. I use public transport.

If you view yourself as disable then so will everyone else. You are not a label but a person who is challanged in ways that most have no idea in how it really feels. One thing I learned after dealing with my back issues for 30 years is that I am the one who allows me to feel like I am being judged. I am 56 years old and can no longer stand straight and look like I am 90 years old with the posture my collasped back has left me. However that has not stopped me from going out and taking adapted downhill skiing lessons. I dont care how I looked skiing down the hill I was just looking at the enjoyment of doing my best. I know I will never be able to run marathons again (in fact it is painful just to walk to get my mail) but that does not mean my life is over but instead if has changed. I know being on a antidepressant has helped me also.

I hope and pray you will see your Doctor and let him know how you truly feel. He can direct you where to go for help. Hugs and prayers. Let me know how you are doing.
