I Have Had Debilitating Pain W/extensive Complications. I Have Been Unable To Work (all Docs Agree) But Was Unsuccessful In Receiving SSI.
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

I moved in with my parents after my husband left me sick with 2 boys under the age of 7. Between the 3 adults, we were able to take care of my boys; until my oldest required his 4th of 5 brain surgeries. At that point, I applied for gov. asst. and began receiving Medicaid. This helped but since then, my boys have aged out of the system & my father has passed. I now have no insurance and no income.

Does anyone have any suggestions or been in a similar situation?

Absolutley get a lawyer. It's near impossible to get SSI without a lawyer especially in NY. Good luck to you and God bless.

You usely get turned down the first time get a SSI later ( ALSAP) IS the one that helped me I didn't even have to go to court they are nation wide I am in Oklahoma and they are in somewhere like California
I think I had a phone with them while they were in court and told the judge my conditions
Hope this helps

I'm so sorry you're going through all of this! SSI almost always deny you the first time. If you have seen a doctor regularly and have been diagnosed with a debilitating disease you should be able to reapply. That's what I had to do and I am now on Disability. It doesn't pay a lot but it is better than nothing! I wish you the best!

Here's the Big problem!
You've also passed your quarter's! The time limit. That'll definitely count against you, so you'll have to have a Lawyer that specializes in this. My husband,( GET THIS), Was approved for SSI with NO benifits, because I have an income. Is that insane or WHAT? Two people in the same household ARE allowed to have an income as long as it isn't over a certain amount.
That's our government for ya! Good luck& KNOW that you'll get denied the first time, everybody does..but then approved the next.
