How Do You Exercise And Stay In Shape With Chronic Illness?
A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

I really want and need to get in shape but I am so scared I will just end up hurting worse than I started or vomiting all over the gym. I’m just tired of my only exercise being a walk to the mailbox. Even then I’m tired but I want more. Does regular exercise help with pain management, even if it makes you tired?

Light Exercise does help a lot of people with chronic pain.
Me personally if I try to even just walk around the block I pay for it for the next 2 days, it’s a good day for me when I can actually go to the grocery store and walk around for 30 minutes. My advice would be try just a little light exercise at first, maybe a short walk around the block, try that for few days or a week and see how your body does afterward and if it can handle that then try adding something new to your walk maybe light ankle weights and then just keep adding a little at a time until your body tells you that’s it then you’ll know how far you can push your body. Good luck. Big soft Hugs 🤗

Have you tried elastic bands. Physical therapist offer different bands with different strengths. Then there are all kinds of low impact exercises for you

I’m going to start PT after 18 years of only around the house stuff. I have found pool therapy great in the past, and if you are interest in chair yoga go to you tube and search it to find free routines. Go slow...or you will injur yourself. Chewable magnetism tablets if you start to get muscle cramps because of your new found excersise routine!

Blessings

I have found that pool therapy is great! I started a few weeks ago and back from vacation now I need to get back.

It makes exercises in the water easier. You feel sore after, but after time my body felt better so not as much pain, atleast for awhile. It also helps due to the water being warm. My PT, that first got me started, also had me go into the hot tub after to do stretches. My legs felt a bit like they weren't there for a bit when I got out of it. It wasn't for a very long time though.
