I’m going to be having a small(ish) surgery soon. I also have chronic pain for 20+ years. I’m on long term opioids. I always tell my providers to please include my pain mgt docs in my cases to manage post-op pain. However, most of the time, they don’t. The docs usually say “just use what you have at home”. I can speak to that as an RN. Any and all consultations need to be made from the inside, out. Therefore, you have to have your attending physician write for them to consult your pain management doc. Do not leave it up to the surgeon.
