Had a horrible spine injury, live with pain everyday..

I have had two pain doctors and pain block shots from three or four others as my doctor was on training or holidays. I can tell you not all are the same. YOU must interview THEM. One big point is you to learn their pain speak. This is how the doctors were trained and are most comfortable understanding. Pain is two tiered. First is 1-10. I start off by saying I have had 10's twice in my life, one when I broke L5-6 and the other was my brain aneurism. Then they believe I am at a 7 or whatever I tell them. Do not say you are at 12, they have no sense of humour. Everyone thinks their pain is a 10, even though they tied their shoes, combed their hair etc. If the doctor classes you as an exaggerator, many things for treatment might be missed. Second part is it feels like, mine is usually Ice Pick but whatever it feels like.
I advise being brutally honest with the doctor. They will be an important part of your team.
Once you find him/her, do not let them retire.
Good Luck with it.

It is a mine field out there . I have the Doctors here in NZ telling me to keep taking the prescribed opiates ( morphine ) - I dont want to be an addict - the local DHB o/d'd me with morphine a few years ago - nearly did in ICU , had severe opiode narcosis & multiple organ failure - now I use Jack Daniels - that I can control better than the morphine . Good luck out there - there is no easy answer ! Take care .
